Getting started

Open Grocer and answer a few questions about your household, budget and what you’d rather avoid. Then ask for what you need, for example “Plan five dinners for under $80” or “Make this week vegetarian”. Grocer plans the meals and builds a priced list you can save.

Prices and stores

Why doesn’t the total match my receipt?

Grocer’s totals are estimates from store prices collected near your ZIP code. Shelf prices, promotions and pack sizes change, and stores differ. Use the total as a close guide.

Can I choose the store?

Where Grocer has prices from more than one store near you, open Settings → Store and pick one.

An item is missing from my list

Grocer leaves out cupboard basics like salt and oil, and anything it couldn’t find a safe product for given your allergies. It will say which items it couldn’t price. Ask Grocer to add anything you need.

Changing your details

Open Settings → Update preferences to change your household, budget, ZIP code, allergies and food preferences. You can also just tell Grocer in the chat, for example “We’re vegetarian now”.

Moving to a new phone

Grocer starts you with a guest account on your device. To keep your lists when you change phones, create an account first:

  1. On your current phone, open Settings → Create an account and choose Apple, Google or email.
  2. On the new phone, install Grocer and tap Already have an account? Log in.
  3. Sign in the same way. Your lists, plans and preferences come with you.

A guest account cannot be recovered after the app is deleted.

Grocer Pro

What happens after the free trial?

Meal planning, priced lists and conversation with Grocer need Grocer Pro. Your saved lists and Discover stay available.

I subscribed but Grocer still shows the upgrade prompt

Open Settings → Grocer Pro and tap Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple or Google account you paid with.

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are managed by the store you bought from:

  • iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Grocer.
  • Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Grocer.

Deleting the app or your Grocer account does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.

Discover

When you save a list you can tick Share to Discover, without your name. Shared lists show no name, email or ZIP code. Because of that, a shared list can’t be traced back to your account. To have one removed, email us with its title and roughly when you shared it.

Delete your account

You can delete your Grocer account and its data at any time.

In the app

  1. Open Grocer and go to Settings.
  2. Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
  3. Confirm. You’ll be returned to the welcome screen.

What is deleted

Your profile and preferences, your conversations with Grocer, your meal plans and saved lists, and your sign-in. Copies in encrypted backups are overwritten within a short period. Lists you shared to Discover are anonymous and stay there unless you ask us to remove them.

If you no longer have the app

If you created an account with Apple, Google or email, send a deletion request to privacy@heygrocer.com from the email address on that account. We will confirm it’s you, delete the account and its data, and let you know when it’s done. A guest account has no email to verify, so once the app is deleted we cannot tell which account was yours. If you still have the app, delete the account from Settings before removing it.

Deleting your account does not cancel Grocer Pro. Cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings first.
